John Sheridan served as Captain of the Agamemnon before assuming control of Babylon 5 in 2259. The following year he asserted Babylon 5's independence from the Earth Alliance, and established the station as a fortress of light against the Shadows. As time went on, Sheridan became close to Delenn and also developed a strong bond with Kosh. A trip into the future showed that Sheridan was destined to become Delenn's husband and the father of their son - David. At the end of 2260, Sheridan was stunned by the return of his wife, Anna, who took him to Z'ha'dum. Once there, he launched a nuclear strike against the Shadows' HQ before jumping into a massive pit - and almost certain death. However he miraculously returned to Babylon 5 (where he was reunited with Delenn) to lead the allies in a final successful strike against the Shadows and eventually to free Earth from the oppressive regime of Clark.
